JROTC established 1 April 1983, Under the Provisions
of General Order No. 23, Headquarters, U.S. Army,
Washington DC, dated 5 July 1983. 
Designated 6th JROTC Battalion, Baton Rouge, LA

Istrouma High School is located in the northern part of East Baton Rouge Parish. A technology magnet program (a school within a school) was added beginning school year 1997-98, with emphasis on telecommunications, robotics, laser disc, computer processing and electronic repair.

Junior ROTC is an elective course open to all students 9-12 grade. Credit is awarded for successful completion of course requirements.

Istrouma High Cadet JROTC Battalion is very active in school and community support projects. Drill, Rifle, and Color Guard teams are offered as integrated-curricular activities. Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) attendance is encouraged for selected cadets to obtain additional leadership training.  Istrouma High has been awarded the rating of "Satisfactory" during the latest Command Formal Inspection.
