JROTC established 1 July 2005, Under the Provisions of General Order No. 2008-03, Headquarters, U.S. Army, Washington DC, dated 31 March 2008.
Robert E. Lee High School is a comprehensive high school located in the southwestern part of East Baton Rouge Parish. Opening in 1959, the school has evolved into a school housing 750 students and a staff of nearly 100 strong.
The population includes 64% African American students, 20% foreign students from 37 different countries, and 16% white students. It is the ESL high school for the parish and is the most richly- diverse student population around. Many great things have happened at the school lately, including programs such as JROTC, national industry-based certification programs, and the addition of grants and funding.
Junior ROTC is an elective course open to all students 9-12 grade. Credit is awarded for successful completion of course requirements. The Robert E. Lee High School Cadet JROTC Battalion is very active in school and community support projects. Drill, Rifle, and Color Guard teams are offered as integrated-curricular activities. Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) attendance is encouraged for selected cadets to obtain additional leadership training. This unit has been awarded the rating of "Merit Unit" for achieving the standard in all areas of the program during the latest Command Formal Inspection.
