JROTC was re-established 1 July 2005, under the provisions of General Order No. 2008-03, Headquarters, U.S. Army, Washington DC, dated 31 March 2008.

Scotlandville Magnet High School is located in the northern part of Baton Rouge. Opening in 1961, the school has evolved into a school housing 1260 students and a faculty & staff of nearly 100. It became a magnet high school in 1981, and resumed magnet/neighborhood school status in 1997.

The school underwent a major renovation in 2004, reopening in 2005. Along with a beautiful facility and campus, the school offers Magnet and Engineering programs, as well as Centers of Excellence for Business Entrepreneurship and Government Affairs.

Junior ROTC is an elective course open to all students 9-12 grade. Credit is awarded for successful completion of course requirements. The JROTC "Eagle" Battalion is very active in school, community support, and service learning projects. Drill Team and Color Guard teams are offered as integrated-curricular activities, and have already earned a number of district-level trophies for excellence.

Beginning in the 2007 school year, we will also offer an Air Rifle Team. Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) attendance is encouraged for selected cadets to obtain additional leadership training.  This unit has been awarded the rating of "Honor Unit with Distinction" for achieving very high standards during the latest Command Formal Inspection.
