JROTC Established at Tara High School on 1 January 1993,
Under the Provisions of General Order No. 4, Headquarters,
U.S. Army, Washington DC, dated 3 March 1993.
Designated the 7th JROTC Battalion, Baton Rouge, LA

Tara High School is a suburban school with a student body that represents a wide socio-economic background from East Baton Rouge Parish. Junior ROTC is an elective course open to all grade levels for credit. JROTC classroom instruction is conducted during normal school hours.

Integrated Activities Rifle, Drill and Color Guard/Honor Guard teams are also offered during after school hours. JROTC enrollment is approximately 18 percent of the school enrollment.

Annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) provide extra leadership training opportunities for selected cadets.  This unit has been awarded the the rating of "Honor Unit with Distinction" for achieving very high standards in all areas of the program during the latest Command Formal Inspection.
